BDH H2SQ Shifter – Mechanical precision for H-pattern and sequential racing.
Make every gear change a deliberate part of the drive with the BDH H2SQ Shifter. This premium dual-mode sim racing shifter brings H-pattern and sequential operation into one substantial mechanical unit. A dual-rail mechanism, adjustable resistance and direct USB connectivity make it a compelling choice for a PC cockpit used across several disciplines. From working through the gears of a classic touring car to making consecutive shifts in a rally car, the H2SQ puts a dedicated lever within reach.
Why choose this product?
-
Two shifting modes: select H-pattern or sequential operation using the mechanical mode collar.
-
Distinct mechanical engagement: a dual-rail design gives each mode its own guided movement.
-
Adjustable resistance: tune the shift effort with the thumb-wheel tensioner.
-
Contactless input detection: Hall-effect sensors register gear selection.
-
USB-powered operation: connect the shifter to a PC without a separate power supply.
-
Flexible installation: position the unit on either side of a suitable aluminium profile cockpit.
Product details
Dual-rail engineering with a dedicated feel in each mode
The H2SQ uses two shafts working together in H-pattern operation. In sequential mode, the secondary shaft is locked to create a dedicated forward-and-back action. This mechanical arrangement changes the movement of the lever as you select a different mode. BDH's Hex Drive and guided shift mechanism are designed to produce positive engagement with minimal play.
That makes the H2SQ especially appealing if your simulator library includes cars with different transmissions. You can build your cockpit around one shifter position, then choose the mode that suits the car rather than reaching for a different control.
H-pattern shifting for manual cars
The H-pattern mechanism provides eight selectable positions that you can assign in your simulator. Set up the gear layout and reverse input to match the vehicle and your preferred orientation. Pairing the shifter with a clutch pedal makes manual cars more involving: your hands and feet work together through acceleration, braking and gear selection.
For heel-and-toe practice, begin with comfortable pedal spacing and a lever position you can reach while keeping your back supported. Choose a familiar car and practise individual downshifts before combining several changes during a braking sequence.
Sequential operation for consecutive gear changes
When you select sequential mode, the lever operates as a dedicated upshift and downshift control. The H2SQ exposes separate sequential inputs for assignment in the game. This is useful when driving cars that use consecutive gear selection and when you prefer a lever to steering-wheel paddles.
Before changing modes, place the lever in neutral and follow BDH's selector-collar instructions. Check the selected mode and control assignments before heading onto the track, especially if you switch between cars during a session.
Resistance that you can tune to your preference
The thumb-wheel tensioner changes the mechanical shift effort. H-pattern and sequential driving may feel best at different settings, so take time to find a comfortable balance. A lighter setting can suit relaxed driving; a firmer setting can make each selection feel more deliberate. Avoid excessive tension and use the adjustment procedure in the manual.
The most useful setting is one you can operate consistently throughout a race. Compare adjustments over several laps and pay attention to reach, wrist position and fatigue as well as the resistance itself.
Substantial construction for a permanent sim racing cockpit
BDH specifies a 4 kg assembly with a machined aluminium chassis and high-tensile steel components. Self-lubricating bronze guides and engineered spring components support its mechanical operation. The supplied nylon gear knob can be replaced with a suitable M10 × 1.5 knob, subject to BDH's fitting requirements and weight limit.
Mount the shifter securely before judging its feel. Movement in the cockpit support can make a firm gear change feel less precise, so choose a mounting position with adequate support and enough space around the lever.
Compatibility and cockpit setup
Windows PC connection and game configuration
The H2SQ connects directly to a PC over USB and draws its power from that connection. BDH's manual describes recognition through Windows USB Game Controllers, followed by gear assignment in your chosen simulator. H-pattern positions and sequential upshift/downshift controls should each be checked during setup.
The H2SQ uses mechanical resistance and does not require the BDH Active SimHub plugin. For a mixed-brand PC setup, connect the wheelbase, pedals and shifter through their respective supported interfaces. Confirm that your game supports the separate controllers and the shifting mode you intend to use.
Profile mounting and driving position
The supplied M8 T-slot nuts and bolts support mounting on suitable aluminium profile. Top and side mounting arrangements allow you to adapt the position to your cockpit. Some chassis layouts require an optional adapter plate; check your profile slots, hole spacing and clearance before installation.
Place the lever where you can reach it naturally without stretching around the wheel. If you also use a handbrake, plan both controls together and leave room for your hand throughout each movement.
Recommended products for a complete driving setup
-
Complete manual control: the SIMAGIC P1000 three-pedal set includes a clutch for H-pattern driving. Use the pedals' supported PC connection alongside the H2SQ and configure both devices in your simulator.
-
Rally and drift: add the SIMAGIC TB-RS Hydraulic Handbrake if your driving disciplines benefit from a separate handbrake input. Arrange the controls around your seated position and check the required mounting hardware.
-
Direct drive steering: the Simucube 3 Pro Direct Drive Wheel Base is an option for a premium PC cockpit. Combine steering feedback with the H2SQ's mechanical gear engagement, using each device's own connection and setup requirements.
Exploring other shifting systems? Compare the H2SQ with the BDH Active Shifter™ if telemetry-driven resistance and gearbox effects are a priority. For more help choosing a model, read our BDH H1, H2SQ, S1 and Active shifter guide.

Frequently asked questions
Can the BDH H2SQ be used in both H-pattern and sequential mode?
Yes. The mechanical selector collar changes between the two modes. Put the lever in neutral before switching and follow BDH's instructions to engage the collar correctly.
How many gear positions are available?
H-pattern mode offers eight selectable positions for configuration in your simulator. Sequential mode uses dedicated upshift and downshift inputs.
Does the H2SQ require SimHub or an external power supply?
No. The H2SQ is a mechanical USB shifter powered through its PC connection. The SimHub plugin for BDH Active products is not required for H2SQ operation.
Can I adjust the shift resistance?
Yes. The thumb-wheel tensioner adjusts the mechanical resistance. Use a comfortable setting for each mode and avoid overtightening.
Do I need a clutch pedal?
A clutch pedal is recommended for the complete manual driving experience in cars with an H-pattern gearbox. Clutch requirements depend on the car, simulator and driving-assistance settings.
Can I change the gear knob?
The knob uses an M10 × 1.5 thread. Follow BDH's fitting instructions and check the replacement weight: the manual states that knobs exceeding 250 g void the shifter warranty.
What warranty does BDH offer?
BDH states that the H2SQ has a lifetime manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects. Coverage remains subject to the manufacturer's terms, installation requirements and correct use.
